Welcome to the Seascape & Surf photography workshop. This short photography course is run in beautiful Croyde Bay, Devon and is designed for beginners who are interested in turning OFF auto-mode and getting to know the capabilities of their camera. We will also cover the following points which are imperative for creative control when practising Photography:
- Shutter Speed
- Camera Buttons and Functions
- Depth of Field
- Capturing Movement (frozen and blurred)
- Capturing surfing action (surf conditions depending)
10 am: Meet at Baggy's for an introduction to the workshop, talk about what you want to get out of the workshop, the 'Exposure triangle' (shutter speed, aperture, ISO), Depth of Field, operating semi-auto and manual controls on your cameras.
11.15 am: Off we go! Head on out either in the direction of Baggy Point or Croyde beach to put the theory of what we have learnt into practice. This is the time to get creative, get familiar with your camera's functionality and shoot the surf and seascape around us. I will be on hand to help you capture the perfect shot with lots of little hints and tips along the way!

So fun and informative
Just brilliant, a unique and fun experience from start to finish. I received the course as a gift having used my canon 550d for a number of years but never fully understanding it all. Nicko gave me solid advice based seeing How I was using it, no question to stupid to ask and I left feeling confident and getting the most of out of the camera for my photography. Also just a super nice guy and someone you’d be happy to spend a day with! Highly recommend!
Informative and Friendly Great Day
Having had my cannon EOS750D camera for a few years I had never used any settings other than auto. After a few hours with Nicko I was using the manual settings with confidence and knowledge! Nicko is an excellent teacher, friendly, patient and highly knowledgable about all aspects of photography. He made the day fun, exciting and inspirational. I especially enjoyed taking my newly acquired skills outside to the amazing surroundings to put them into practice, this was a great part of the workshop - it’s practical as well as theoretical. Nicko has given me the confidence to take my photography and progress!
