The first time I picked up a camera was to document all the places I was visiting over my six and a half years in the Navy. When I left, I landed a job on a superyacht and spent two years travelling to the kinds of spots many people can only dream of seeing. Then, after running a dive centre in Sardinia, I jumped ship to study underwater filmmaking in Asia. It was while travelling through Asia documenting marine life and surfing that my passion for ocean photography exploded.
Eventually I moved to Australia to complete my commercial diver course and started work as a construction diver in Sydney. I was employed to oversee the test-dive of a submersible that would attempt to reach to the deepest place on Earth. As it happened, film director James Cameron and National Geographic were behind the endeavour. I ended up joining the expedition to the Mariana Trench, launching and recovering the sub and assisting the cameramen in the water.
Croyde Camera Club
Today I’m back in England, based between Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. I work as a fine art and in-water photographer capturing images of the sea, the waves and the people riding them.
